Case Study: Arla

There may be differences, but there is also lots of learn from each other.

Arla are a global dairy company focussed on sustainable dairy production and have production sites across the globe with a clear vision of "Creating the future of dairy to bring health and inspiration to the world, naturally...". A key action Arlo is taking for a better future is working with our farmer owners, we’ve committed to reducing on-farm CO2e emissions per kilo milk by 30 per cent by 2030. Rewarding farmers for their climate activities is an important milestone towards accelerating CO2e reductions on farm.

Vibeke From Jeppesen, QEHS Director for Global Product Safety and Global Logistics, shared that “from our work on food safety culture (with Culture Excellence), we have developed learnings that come from implementing strategies across a range of sites globally’.  At Arla, we feel that we have the benefit of diversity in our workforce which allows us to explore different options and ways of doing things.

We promote the following messages.

  • Drive ONE direction

Similarly with other companies, we celebrate food safety week. During food safety week, we have created a Microsoft Teams background for all to use to promote our “ONE direction”. In order to get information across we developed posters to communicate relevant issues to relevant colleagues – these were translated into different languages to allow them to be utilised in different sites.

  • Learn from each other

We’re keen to share experiences between sites and ideas of what worked well and what didn’t work so well. Sites are encourages to utilise ideas from other sites.

  • Compare with care

Completing the food safety and quality survey has highlighted differences, but we can report at different levels so sites are able to compare their own results and use this as a baseline.
